Assistant Coaches required for National County Team Championships in Sheffield 3rd-4th October 2026

KCASA are looking to recruit two Assistant Coaches to support the Kent team at the National County Team Championships at Ponds Forge on 3rd-4th October 2026. The Assistant Coaches will report to the County Head Coach for the duration of the event. This is a fantastic opportunity to be involved in what is always an exciting and enjoyable event!
The overall purpose of the County Assistant Coach is to:
- Assist the County Head Coach in supervising the performance of the County Team in the National County Team Championships (the Competition)
- Enhance coaching experience to allow progression to the role of Head Coach
- Provide professional coaching related services within the context of the delivery of the Competition
- Take responsibility for swimmers as directed by the County Head Coach or the duration of the Competition
- Assist with the delivery and evaluation of the Competition
- Communicate effectively with athletes and staff including the County organisation
- Motivate and enthuse swimmers and staff during the Competition
- Reflect on your own coaching practice and behaviour
- Support the Team Managers where requested with the pastoral care of the athletes
- Exhibit British Swimming and Swim England Coaching Principles during coaching practice;
Location
- National County Team Championships, Sheffield
Key Responsibilities:
Prior to Competition
- Liaise with the County Head Coach to ensure you have an understanding of the aims and objectives of the Competition
- Ensure you have a clear understanding of your role during the duration of the Competition
- Communicate with the County Head Coach and other members of the County staff team
- (Where necessary and as directed by the Head Coach) communicate with the home coach of the athletes selected to help to form an understanding of the athlete needs and expectations.
- Assist in creating good team spirit on the journey to the Competition and at the hotel prior to Competition
- Working as part of a team with the other staff to support the team managers in creating and maintaining a safe and supportive performance based environment, with team logistics and upholding the team rules and code of conduct.
During Competition
- Assist in the delivery of competition activity in line with the Competition objectives and plans
- Support the selected athletes
- Make a positive contribution as required to support any land based activities.
- Communicate effectively with all swimmers and staff
- Assist in conducting effective pre-race planning
- Assist in conducting effective post-Race evaluation, encouraging athlete self-reflection
- Working as part of a team with the other staff to support the team managers in creating and maintaining a safe and supportive performance based environment, with team logistics and upholding the team rules and code of conduct.
Following Competition
- Contribute to any post camp debrief discussion with the County Head Coach
- (If considered necessary and as directed by the County Head Coach) feedback to swimmers home coaches on any key matters arising during the Competition
Person Specification:
Required
- Must hold a Swim England Senior Coach Certificate or equivalent
- Must be at least Level 2 coach at a Club affiliated to Kent County Amateur Swimming Association
- Must hold a valid Swim England DBS and safeguarding certificate
- Proven experience as a practising coach, working with county and regional level swimmers
Desirable
- Engaged with County in County programmes, competitions and camps
- Committed to ongoing learning
- The ability to set priorities and work flexibly to meet outcomes required in a dynamic environment
- Good planning, interpersonal and communication skills (with swimmers, staff and home coaches)
- High levels of motivation and dedication
- Have an outgoing personality with good interpersonal skills and be able to enthuse and motivate young people
- TM1 and TM2 qualifications
- A team player with the ability to:
- Ability to evaluate and provide feedback to athlete and staff
- Tact and diplomacy in all interpersonal relationships
- Self-disciplined with a commitment to continuous service improvement
- Ability to think for yourself and use own initiative.
Remuneration
The role attracts remuneration of £250 payable on receipt by the County of an invoice following the event. Expenses will be payable for travel to and from the coach pick up points in the County at 45p per mile. The County will pay for overnight accommodation and dinner at or near the hotel on 3rd October and Breakfast on 4th October. The County will only reimburse reasonable charges for lunch and dinner on 4th October.
