Bronze for KCASA swimmer Annabel Guye-Johnson on final day
8th October 2017
Annabel Guye-Johnson won 200m Breaststroke bronze on the final day of the 2017 World Junior Championships in Indianapolis, USA.
The RTW Monson swimmer took her PB down to 2:27.42 to touch third in a thrilling final.
Ireland’s Mona McSharry had lead the race out through the opening 100m, with Guye-Johnson trailing in sixth.
But the English swimmer’s back end speed saw her carve a trail through the field in the second half of the race.
Zoe Bartel (2:25.68) and Ella Nelson (2:27.04) sealed an American 1-2, but Guye-Johnson was next best, coming home just 0.25 seconds ahead of McSharry.
The 17-year old split 33.57, 37.85, 37.91 and 38.09, slicing nearly three seconds off her PB 2:30.06 from the heats. The time also moved her to fourth in the historic British 17 Yrs rankings.
